Save your money and get any better space RTS. The problem is that there aren't many copies because anyone who bought it likely broke the disc out of disgust. It has become semi-collectible due to there not being many copies out there and that means it usually sells for a premium price despite it's age. The first game wasn't revolutionary but it gave RTS fans who were Trekkies a chance to play with familiar settings and ships and characters. But sadly when it comes down to it none of the new features make the game any fun. The BORG can link up 8 cubes into a super cube which is really powerful.
Ships can warp to far away distances making map exploration fast, and there are lots of new ships, including a few that should have been in the first game. There is a 3D mechanic to the maps so you can move ships into formations that take advantage of the space in new ways. The game has some neat ideas and features. Unfortunatly the fun of the first game is not present.
But keep an open mind with Armada-if you like both, consider the fact that you could save $75. You may find you like Armada II better than Armada I, or you may not. There are fewer missions in Armada, but at least you have a chance to be the Romulans. I've had a much easier time keeping my fleets under control in Armada I.Ħ. For instance, you have to gather metal as an additional resource, but frankly, it's thrice as hard to get enough metal as it is to gather vespene gas!ĥ. While some of the additions to Armada II, such as Galaxy-class starships, are great additions, other ones made the game a lot more challenging. If you like Starcraft, the controls are easier to use in the first Armada. The sound quality is either equal in the two games or better in the firs t one, depending on the case.ģ. The only thing that looks better in Armada II is how the ships and buildings fly apart after explosions.Ģ. But what are that seeing that I don't see? I didn't see much difference in the graphics when comparing the two-if anything, the graphics were slightly better in the first one. Several people liked the graphics better in Armada II. Here's some differences between Armada and Armada II, the purpose being to describe why I like the first better.ġ. If you want to save a lot of money, the first Armada is definitely the way to go. I played demos of both Armada and Armada II, and for somebody who wanted Star Trek and Starcraft combined, I liked the first Armada better. Maybe you should consider the first Armada Map objects include six types of planets, nebulae, and wormholes, all of which can help or hinder your missions. To collect material resources, mining stations, orbital processing facilities, trading stations, shipyards, research facilities, science stations, and turrets (for protection) have to be created. Building requirements include freighters for moving resources, construction, repair, and colony ships, and combat vessels ranging from a Galaxy-class Federation ship to a Species 8472 battleship. Star Trek: Armada II objectives require you to manage unit attacks, repair and re-crew, patrol, scout, search and destroy, guard, build, or trade. Multiplayer action on the Internet (GameSpy) or a LAN offers players the option of playing a regular game or engaging in Capture the Flag, Alliances, Collect Latinum, Colonize Planets, Defend Planets, or Assault modes. In Instant Action mode, you select one of six races (including Species 8472), choose the area and resource level, then prepare battle plans to exterminate all other players. Battles are planned tactically from a top-down perspective, then played out in real-time 3D. Multiplayer games add races such as Romulans and Cardassians to the mix. Each race has a specific agenda: the Federation needs to eliminate the Borg from the Delta Quadrant, Klingons act as peacekeepers in the Alpha Quadrant, and the Borg try to maintain their collective. In this sequel to Star Trek: Armada, trekkers and strategy gamers lead the Federation, the Klingons, or the Borg in single-player missions featuring interstellar exploration and fleet combat.
